CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1894 Barber Quarter RPM or DDO?

I'll let the pics do the talking here...I do notice extra metal on the top upper loop of the 8, west on the 4, and the top of the 1...no notches I can see, coin is worn pretty good...wonder if this should be sent out for examination?
    Thanks

The first problem that I see is that the "extra" metal is in two different directions on the 4 and 8 digits. If it were a repunched date, the normal look would have the extra digits (or parts of the extra digits) in the same direction.

The second problem is that the coin is in a worn state and it maybe to worn to have useful information gathered from it.

Though I am hesitant to say what the anomalies are, be aware that this could be machine doubling or possible even Longacre's doubling.

Thanks BJ..I agree, the coin is too worn to make a definitive analysis..you bring up good points, for sure.
