  • 2008 HAWAII EXTRA (FUTURE) ISLAND CHAINS

Here is a really neat Hawaii die chip(s) error coin I found in my roll searching. It contains eighteen separate die chips resembling island chains (indicated by the blue arrows) and 5 die chips resembling another set of island chains (indicated by the red arrows.

I have tried to get as good a photo as possible and I realize that it is difficult to see each and every die chip, but trust me, they are there.

I kind of look at the coins as a possible future prediction of islands that may exist in about five million years. The history behind this is that there is a giant caldera of lava under the present location of the southern most Hawaian Islands. The entire Hawaian chain is composed of numerous other islands to the North and West for about 800 miles of the present chain group know as the Hawaian Islands. The techtonic plates have been moving North and West for the past five to ten million years and the results of creating of many islands. The present large island(s) that make up Hawaian Island state will move North and West over the next five million years and will be replaced with other island chains made by the caldera as the plates continue to move.

It's hard to tell from your photos exactly what type of blemishes these are. I don't believe they are die chips. They may be "blebs" (die erosion pits).
