I have seen this "skin condition" on a fair number of other coins, especially dimes. This is different than the stretch marks (technical term, please) I have seen on some coins.

2003 P Alabama Skin Condition
The attached photo shows the obverse surface of a 2003-P Alabama state quarter. Notice the "orange peel" condition of the surface. I was wondering what die condition would cause this type of surface. The reverse has the same condition on all surfaces, just slightly smaller dimples.
I have seen this "skin condition" on a fair number of other coins, especially dimes. This is different than the stretch marks (technical term, please) I have seen on some coins.Tags: None

The die may have been starting to wear out or maybe it was becoming clogged with debris or grease.Other words the die surfaces was not smooth IMO.
