CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1986 Ellis Island Proof - Prestige Set

For a Proof/Prestige Set coin it sure has a lot of issues.

Doubling on 1 and top of 9. Eight is struck weak on the left side and upper loop looks partially filled.

Lines over 86 in date look kind of like reverse design. (possibe die clash?)

Chip out of rim at 5 o'clock

Lines over the top of Liberty's Tiara seem very straight for die scratches. Obverse fields look like a meteor shower.

Well the coin looks like it hasnt been handled so well.Im not sure if it's a doubled die from your pics. Those little markings arent clash remnant!

Maybe it was sitting funny when it was struck? (something caused that rim chip)

There is medium doubling on the 1 and light doubling on the 9 but I'm thinking machine doubling as opposed to DDO.

I have a bellows coming to add to my macro lens setup, future posts will be closeups with a camera instead of this little microscope. Should get much better color and depth.
