    1890 S Dime - S/S/S?

Anyone seen this mint mark before? There are versions that are S over S (filed in S as here) and there are versions with S over S (offset as you can see here the remnants to the right of the S), but there is no version I have seen with the S over S filled and the S offset....

Thanks and have a great day

I'm not familiar with this variety, but my first thought is whether the MM style differs between the filled and clear S. It seems that this coin may have circulated enough for some metal to have moved, possibly making the clearer MM look filled. I would check the diagnostics for both (if you can find some) and make sure this is from a different die.

Thanks a ton for your help....I am fairly certain that it has components of this dime back

Gerry Fortin's web-book offers a wealth of new information about Seated Dime die varieties and a format that organizes the previous die varieties defined by Ahwash and Greer.

but looks also like it has been punched many times to be filled in S...

      Any more thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks for posting that link. I somehow haven't bookmarked that site yet! It looks like you've got the right diagnostics for variety 107, just like you posted. The filled mintmark isn't necessarily filled because of more mintmark punches. Most likely, while the dime as in circulation, some of the metal got moved, and looking at the MM in the higher grade coin on the varieties site, it already looks mostly filled. My impression is that this is just an S/S with some added wear.
