  • 1819/8 half dollar?

Any info on this coin will be helpful. I am very new to coin collecting. Is this a variety or a regular 1819?

I believe this is a 1919/8 small 9. Do a search for 1819/8 and you may be able to find value ranges for whatever grade coin you have. I can tell from the photos. Would need full obverse and reverse photos to help with that.

      Thanks

Thanks Steven. Like I said I am very new to numismatics. I have a magazine called "Coins" with values. With the info i can find online about the grades of the Capped Bust Half Dollar it should be somewhere between a VG-8 and F-12. If it is the 1819/8 small 9 it is valued at $92-$105. The only problem is (as you can see from the photo) someone has personalized the coin with their initials. i do not know how much this would effect the value. It was my grandfathers so it will not be sold anyway, but it still sucks.

Too bad about the damage. I would think this would reduced the value significantly.
