  • 1989 Silver American Eagle DDO...

Hello, I just figured since I posted those other two, and I had this right here, that I might as well share this too.... I am curious if anyone can share some insight. Are DDO/DDR's common for the Silver American Eagles? This one had been cleaned before I got it, it was just in a "junk-silver" lot that I bought, and I happened to notice it had some spread on the face/chest/hands/stars/leaves etc.... The widest spread is probably on the leaves, towards the top. The spread is downward. Thanks for looking. Again, I am very excited to become a knowledgable member of this community, and I am equally excited to share when I can help a member... It is such an awesome hobby.

I don't see anything of note here. Perhaps you can be certain that you see the same doubling in the images that you see on the coin so we know there's something to look for. It seems that the area you described might be in the shadow in your second image, which makes for difficult viewing.

There are two noted listings for silver eagles, both of which are Proofs. One for 1989-S and the other 1992-S, so DDO/DDRs are not common for this bullion coin.

Since the coin has been cleaned as you stated, then there maybe some flatness to the design elements which appears to be extra thickness. Cleaned coins are very difficult to attribute for minor doubled dies and you coin seems to be just that.
