Actually, it IS a die crack. It's simply that the design rim is well-struck, forcefully enough that coin metal was able to rise into the crack in the floor of the rim gutter. All radial die cracks can be expected to extend in from the outer edge of the rim gutter, which coincides with the side of the die neck. It's just that in many coins, the coin metal doesn't squeeze into the rim gutter forcefully enough to show it.Mike Diamond. Error coin writer and researcher.
