CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

  • 1938 Jefferson DDR

Jefferson's are my love so I picked this up on Ebay on 02/09. It was listed as a BU and I ended up winning it for $2.44 + $0.89 shipping. Still a very good deal to me for a BU '38 Jefferson. I used my loupe as I always do and noticed EPU looked odd. However, I noticed the MD on USA and guessed MD. It kept bugging me as I glassed this nickel every night for about 4 days. I still had a feeling something was up. I finally got my PC scope yesterday and these pics represent what I found. I am thinking it is 2-R-II-C (3), if that is the gouge between the C and A of America. If this is it, considering it is BU, should I send it off? PLEASE TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD!

This is not DDR-002; the die gouge is between the I and C of AMERICA and not the CA of AMERICA as it is on your coin.

It appears to be machine doubling. However, an in hand examination may prove otherwise.

Thanks, I got excited. Someone pointed the gouge out on another forum. The splits on the serifs on PLURIBUS still puzzle me.
