Now, I'm poring through the last few rolls of Memorial Cents (a 1961 D BU roll), and I have come across something I've not seen before. There is a large raised area projecting through the lower tail of the 9 of the date. It almost looks like a portion of the 9 was broken off, flipped on its axis, and punched in underneath the final date (sort of gives the effect of those ribbons you see memorializing some particular cause...)
I checked my Cherrypicker's Guide...nothing.
I checked CONECA's Master Listings...nothing.
I checked Ken Potter's Error & Variety Listings...nothing.
I checked John Wexler's Coin and Die Varieties website...nothing.
Google? Nope.
So, I ask you guys/gals...what's going on here? What did I just pay $.01 for? I am including a full coin shot of the obverse and reverse, as well as a few magnified shots of the date/MM. I also will include a black & white version, plus a copy of the black & white version that's been edited a bit in Photoshop.
Thanks for your opinions!
