CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1948 -P Nickle weighs 3.6 grams

I came across this nickel and it seemed thin just to the touch. So I compared it to older ones and it is smaller in circumference, I don't have a way to measure it right but something visible to the eye in circumference is more than one would think. next I put it on the scales and was surprised to see it only weighed 3.6 grams verses the 5.1 a normal nickel would.
Of course my hope is that it was stuck on the wrong planchet .
I took a few pictures of it the side shot is it up next to a 1858 penny, notice how it is thinner than this worn penny.
Is it possible it is on the wrong stock ? If so how can I verify this ?
    Thanks....
