1868 Schield nickle worth restoring ?

I have been researching the process of restoring coins. I have a lot of mixed feelings on this in that is it just a fancy way to say cleaned ?
Part of me knows we are running out of the higher grades of certain coins and since it is not all about value (money ) with me, I am asking what grade you think this coin would reach if restored ?
Does anyone know if any of these restored coins even received grades in light of being restored ?
    Thanks

Take a pig out of the sty, wash off all the mud and you still have a pig. It is the same way with a coin. All grading companies can spot a "cleaned" coin and it will always affect the grade.

As for the grade of the above nickel, I would say VF-20 details, but with corrosion.

        Cleaned vs Restored

If an individual "cleans" a coin with chemicals the coin becomes "unworthy". HOWEVER, if you PAY PCGS they will do a professional restore (with chemicals) BUT the coin will RETAIN its value. Potatoes Patatos.

Personally, I "wash" some of my older coins with Dawn. I figure if Dawn does not hurt petrolium covered water fowl, it will not hurt a coin. I do not use any chemicals that remove patina, spots, etc.

          Cleaning Coins

Thanks for the reply I guess I left out a few preps when I first posted.
Of course I was referring to PCGS. I was interested that these restored coins retained their value.
