CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1958-D RPM#14 Discrepancy

  • 1958-D RPM#14 Discrepancy

    I was going through my attribution pile and had a 58-D marked as RPM#14 with a check attribution note. Looking at the Lincoln RPM eBook, I see that RPM#14 appears to have two different coins listed:

    Stage B shows the D with a slight CW tilt

    Stage C shows the D without tilt, and with more separation on both top and bottom serifs

    Is this a known discrepancy? Which coin represents RPM#14? My coin matches Stage B but is earlier die state, without the die clash marks on obverse.

    Would appreciate assistance in attributing this coin!

    Dr Wiles agreed with my assessment and has now confirmed Stage B as RPM #14, while the coin that was pictured as Stage C is listed as RPM #23. You can see the updates to the E-Book on Variety Vista at:
