  • 1929 S Buffalo Nickel

This post is of an what I believe to be an 1929 S ddo buffalo nickel. I'm just about convinced that it is was wondering your take on the images.
However this coin comes with a story.....
Not to bore you but here's what happen.
I purchased this raw Buffalo at a show I worked last weekend. The dealer whom I made the purchased and I for the most part have had a good business relationship.
However I feel he is not what you call a full time dealer , yes he sells coins and for the most part has a nice inventory. He is not savvy in varieties , and for the most part his knowledge is well lacking.
I purchased a nickel three cent coin from him months ago. I had seen it in his inventory the week before I made the purchase. At that time I had examined it and told him I buy it the following week. I did and when I got the coin out of the 1.5x1.5 I noticed it had a gash! across the bottom of the three Roman numerals. He never smashes the staples and the damage was done by the staple.
I told him of the issue and he sort of blew me off. So for a few months I gave him a pass over buying from other local dealers I know.
This passed Sunday I purchased this Buffalo nickel. it has nice eye appeal toned a rainbow of green and copper colors. A few days ago I decided to have another look at the coin. I had not opened it yet.
Before I opened it I scoped it and there are to rim dings over Liberty!
He always places his inventory in 1.5x1.5 holders. so a nickel pretty much fills the entire window. So your not getting a full view of the rim.
Most of the time I'm spot on catching issues before making a purchase. However now this is the second time I've purchased a damaged coin from him.
I do plan to address him once again over this matter. He may loose a customer if he decides to blow me off again.
I'm pretty sure this is an 1929 S ddo. I just wanted to explain how all this came about.
I'm Asking your take on the DDO, and should I return it or keep it for the variety? I say the coin is AU. in hand as the images shot through plastic as well as using the scope does not do the coin any justice as to color and tone.

This looks like Strike Doubling (aka Machine and Mechanical Doubling) to me. Can't be sure based on the images. Try sending the images to Mike Ellis at mikeellis2001@yahoo.com
