CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • A Closer Look: Fake 1995 Wide AM Cent

Here is a close look at a fake 1995 Wide AM cent. It was made in the same manner as double-headed magicians coins are made. Now, to be fair, I do not believe this coin was produced to defraud. I believe it is a post mint production error. Ya, you read it right. Let me explain. I feel that the facilities that make the double-headed and double-tailed coins make mistakes just like Mints do. I believe that a tray of heads and tails "halves" were set together where trays of heads and heads should have been put together. In doing so, a worker not paying any attention could have made a few into heads and tails coins, i.e, a normal coin appearance. These got caught and sent to the bank.

You can see the tell-tail signs of were it was put together at the seem pointed out by the arrows. To better understand the process view this video first:
