CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    Sunday May 31, 2015 Cherrypicks

I decided to venture away from home Sunday, something I have not been able to do much of after a surgery I'm slowly recovering from.

Cherrypickin' was really bad! But I did have a good time seeing old-time friends some going back over 45 years.

I found a nice 2009 Formative Years Doubled Die Reverse; the one in the Professional Edition of the Red Book refereed to as "Skeleton Finger" or something like that. It is FS-808 and slabbed by ANACS as MS-65 designated with John Wexler's numbers. Apparently it also has a DDO but I did not buy it for that. It was offered to me for $28 but I insisted the seller take $30. It was a nice coin at that price. It's one of the rarest of the nice ones if not the rarest.

I also found a 1982-P Kennedy half dollar with a half way decent obverse clashed die. I also picked up a copy the the recently released 1500 page Deluxe Edition of the Red Book. What a monstrosity! Nice book!

I had lunch at the show (hamburger, fries and ginger ale) with an old fried that goes back to the 1960s with me and we talked about coins and the old days.

    Life is good!

Nice Pickup Ken. How was the turnout down there? Last couple of times it seemed like the show was slow to me. I might ride the scooter down to next months and check it out again.

      Jim,

It was slow and there were too many way too modern coins. And when I say modern I mean real modern -- States quarters, etc. I was hoping to pick up a little gold piece -- maybe foreign but I just didn't see it.

The Shield nickel clash seemed to be a counterfeit to me and what the owner thought was a clash looked more like die repair of some sort. But then I'm no expert on Shield nickels -- I just wouldn't have plucked down my money for it.
