What I see
Looking at this coin, I see that most of the letters of In God We Trust seem to have extra thickness to the "tops" of the letters, although the rim is touching these letters at different places. The N in IN seems to have somewhat of an extra line at the top left of the letter, the G is definitely thicker at the top, the D in God seems to have a line in the middle of the thickness of the semicircle, the W of we is quite thick along with the top of the E being thicker, the U, S, and T of Trust all have a line in the middle of the thickness, the U has the line going from the top left all the way around the to the top right in the middle of the thickness, the S seems to have a central line in the middle of the S and the T has a central line going down the vertical bar of the T. I see either shadowing or an extra line at the base of the hair and neck, the same type of line or shadow is seen on the right side of the lapel from the 1 downward, and the 4 has extra raised metal at the peak of the 4 to the right, and the I in Liberty seems to have a "nipple" at the top of the I giving the appearance of a double top of the letter.
This coin is nothing like the 1943-S pictured in Cherrypicker's Guide on page 113 that is FS-01-1943s-101.
Since I am an amateur coin collector with an old pair of eyes, I would not go by my interpretation, but personally I would keep the coin. As Ben Franklin said, "A penny saved is a penny earned" (of course a penny bought a lot more back then). Nice find.Last edited by Merlin8971; 06-05-2015, 11:24 AM.
