  • Interesting 1957 P Roosevelt Dime

I picked this dime up from a dealer friend of mine a few days ago. I have found some interesting things going on besides the machine doubling. What's you're thoughts? There is a die crack @ 1 K that runs through the head down behind the ear to the rim at 6 K. There are these semi series of raised medal looking to me like part of the date, some sort of clash but they are not incuse. Next to them I can scope out an "A" as well as an upside down 9 or right side up 6. Notice the red arrows you'll see the 6 and the A .The tip of the nose has doubling about a third up to the bridge. The MD on LIBERTY is unreal the "T" looks as it's taken 4 hits.
This coin came from a US Mint set.

After studying these raised bumps as well as other items surrounding them to me it looks like the coin is doubled dated. As you can see a upside down 9 as well a an A and what looks to be four digits . Or the base of the four digits in the date. My question is how can you have raised medal from a clash, as class are incuse?

I would have to see this coin in hand for any determination as to whet you have.
One thing; not all die clash marks are incused. If a design element on the working die is raised (for incused design elements on the coin) then you will see raised clash marks on the coin Great examples of this anomaly type are the clash marks of LIBERTY on the reverse of Morgan dollars. Since the word LIBERTY is incused on the obverse, if it is clashed into the reverse, it will be raised. The same goes for the shield cent. If the reverse leaves clash marks on the obverse, those design elements that were clashed will be raised.
