CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO IDENTIFY BRASS PENNY STRIKES? I READ AN ARTICLE WHICH INDICATED THEY WERE ONLY FOR THE YEARS(MINT MARK) 1983, 85-D, 97, 97D AND 1998.

    THANKS

I'm not an expert on these errors by any means, but they have a slightly brassy color to them. The error is said to be caused by a plating bath with too many dissolved zinc ions in it.

I've found several of them. They seem to vary greatly in the degree of "yellowish" color. When you see a bright yellow one you won't have any doubts. I am not aware of any characteristics other than the yellow color.

I've found a couple really vivid yellow ones from 1994 and 2002. These years are not mentioned in the article on Ken Potter's website. I don't have any original information but its nice to see that somebody else has questions about them. Maybe Mr. Potter will read these threads and have some comment.
