  • Some new State Quarter Doubled Dies

I've searched quite a few 2007 P Wyoming state quarter rolls without any luck. But the last roll I picked up had 5 different (16 total) DDRs! Three of them are very minor - perhaps too minor to list. Two of them are not bad. Here are the two better ones...

This one looks close to CONECA DDR-004 - but I think it is different.

And here's another new State Quarter DDR. Since most of the "State Quarter" DDRs discovered so far are at the center of the design, given the 2004 Iowa quarter design (shown below), what element do you think is the most likely candidate for doubling?

    How about here...

This was pocket change find, but still an AU (or so) coin. It was recently assigned a Crawford file ID CDDR-001.

None of these are jaw droppers - but they are DDRs none the less. I have a feeling there are many more to be found out there in the various "State Quarter" designs. But being all new designs, it takes a little detective work to figure out what might be doubling and what is part of the normal design.

Thank you for sharing your finds.
As someone very new to coins it was informative, interesting and extremely appreciated.

I found this one recently in a 2007 Mint Set (P)

It is not a confirmed DDR yet, but It does not appear to be MD.

Given the location of the doubling, I would tend to agree that it is a DDR. Is this going to be another Minnesota?

I hope not. We don't need another state quarter design with 200+ varieties. I have made an effort to search the Wyoming quarters - and have had no luck with the BU and circulated rolls I've obtained from Banks in my area.

This Wyoming quarter has been out for a while now and the DDR discoveries have been made known - yet they really are not showing up anywhere for sale. So either nobody is looking or they are a little harder to come by than MN 25c DDRs.

The doubling on these is similar to column doubing on a Lincoln cent (or Wizard Island doubing on the Oregon quarter)- except that there is a semi-circle at the center of the WY design around and under the saddle horn -- so the doubling can come from any direction. And given the plain design of the WY quarter - the doubling is really easy to spot. I doubt there will be any MN like 'frenzy' over these WY DDRs - unless there is a really bold one found that really stands out from the crowd. But they are not bad doubled dies and certainly worth looking for. It might be the one saving grace for this most boring State Quarter designs.

I found another 2005 P WY 25c SMS DDR. This one I cherry picked. Looks to be the boldest one I've seen to date...

For a sense of scale, here is the same DDR compared with what would be considered a pretty bold column doubled 2006 D 1c. The amount of doubling on the WY quarter is just about the same -- perhaps a little bolder. Easily seen at 10x.

Very nice Ken and a good way to show the comparison.

That is a nice one! I would love to get it into the CONECA files and up on www.varietyvista.com
