    1954-S RPM#6 new late stage L++

    I am posting this here in addition to the Attributions forum since posts there are only visible to the OP and attributers.

    I have found an example of RPM#6 which is later than stage L, the last stage listed by CONECA. This new stage has a large die chip out of the 9 of the date, where stage L has no evidence of a chip even beginning to form. This likely means there are intermediate stages after L but before this coin. In addition, this coin shows a change to a new reverse die, so is a new die marriage as well.

    This is a listing that has too many stages. That said, this is clearly a new stage and one that merits an entry.

      For sure. The die chip development on the obverse is major, but along with the new die marriage it's a real keeper. It's funny but I marked this coin as "J++" since the last time I looked at this variety it ended in stage J, but two more have been added since then. One thing to note is the reverse die is very new on this coin, so it seems the obverse chip development happened before the reverse was replaced. I'd suggest an unverified Stage M which includes the obverse chip development, then this coin becomes Stage N with the new die marriage.
