CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    1992 Lincoln Cent DDO

When I first saw this die, it struck me as a bit unusual. It did not have the appearance of a die chip or crack and the one thing that did come to mind was a die dent, suggested also by Mike Diamond.

Still, there was some doubt in my mind as to the exact nature of the anomaly and after sending the photos off to some of the other die researchers, it was John Wexler who replied.

His analysis of this die shows it to be an "extra" eye lid and a true doubled die. It is now listed in his files as 1992, 1c, WDDO-002, Class VIII. We have John Knabe of Delmar, New York to thank for finding this nice DDO. Thanks John for a nice and unusual find!

I remain skeptical. Why is it the mirror image of the normal eyelid? Doubled dies do not generate mirror images. And given it's unusually high relief (seemingly higher than the normal eyelid!), why is there no sign of the eyeball?

Mike - I think that the eye brow is shaped like that and it is not a mirror image, although one could say that since both ends appear to have the same physical shape. There is also an underlying secondary image on the right hand tip of the "extra" brow that may seem to add to the dimensional shape of the extra anomaly.
