  • Lincoln Cent 1972 DDO's

I've been watching some ebay auctions of the 72 ddo's. The prices seem to be much higher than those listed in the CPG. I read Kenn Potters explaination that there were some errors in the CPG in this area. I guess he is right.

One auction had a die#3, graded ms65 by anacs, and it sold for 252.00.

Can anyone suggest a good reference for the values of the 1972 ddo's?

    Thanks,
    Hellgee

This link only lists one of the '72's but it's updated very often. The last update was a week ago. It also lists many other Lincoln doubled dies, RPM's, OMM's etcetera.

When it comes to pricing varieties, it is hard for the market does seem to vacillate. Presently, it seems that some varieties are showing a strong increase in value as are error coins (even stronger increases in value) as collectors begin to understand more of the complexities of these type coins. They are also beginning to see the value in collections of error and variety coins not only from this country, but foreign coins as well.

This is made possible by sites such as this, where we have Mike Diamond and James Wiles, two of the leading experts in their fields, to answer questions put forth by collectors. We also have Ken Potter and Bill O'Rourke adding suggestions and comments to this forum.

LCR site does have a good price list going and another that maybe worthy of checking is the PCGS price guide for they do update their prices on a regular basis and do have some of the Major varieties listed.

As for error coins, Mike Diamond is a great source for pricing (although he wont admit it) and you can also visit ECIE (error coin information exchange [hosted by Mike Diamond]) for possible pricing information on your favorite error.
