  • 1954-S Wheat Cent Error??? RPM??? please help

Here is the 1954-S Wheat Cent in question. The question comes from the error located in the 5 in the date. Is it a cud? Lamanation? Rpm? So any feedback on this would be great. I uploaded 5 photos in this post. But here is my web site with 14 Large pictures of this 1954-S from all angles. http://ontrec.spaces.live.com/photos/
Thanks in advance to all who reply,

It's probably a die chip, although I can't rule out a die dent. This is a common area for die chips to develop. 1954-S cents are notorious for die chips around the date.

I have seen this die before and it is a die crack with a die chip. It does draw ones attention due to the location and thoughts of extra digits and mint marks come to mind when this particular die is viewed.

I have one in my collection under oddities.

Thanks for the reply and info on this. now i know what to label it under.

Take a look at this 1968-S. i think it's S/S or might there be one more S. That would be neat if it was a S/D.

Your photos are too small to draw any conclusion.

Much better photos are on this site http://ontrec.spaces.live.com. I had to compress to attach them to the post. still have not got the hang of that yet.

Just finished looking at you pictures of the 1968 - S Lincoln cent and I am fairly sure that it is not a RPM; none of the characteristics of that type anomaly are showing on this die. However, in hand analysis of this die may show that it could be a RPM.
