  • 1970 S Half - What kind of error is this?

I purchased a 1970 S Proof Set and there is a hole in the reverse of the half dollar coin. Can anyone tell me what kind of minting error this is?

It's hard to tell from the photo, but my guess would be that it's some sort of a strike-through error. In other words, the coin was struck through a piece of debris. Such errors are rare on proofs.

      Value in a Proof Error?

If the error on this coin is a strike through, has it any value? Should the coin be taken out of the proof set and sent in for grading or left sealed in the set?

It's not a large strike-through, so I doubt it would be worth more than $20 or $30. So you'd be better off leaving it in the set.
