1960 ROOSEVELT PROOF DDO-004, FS-10-1960-103?
I am looking at a spectacularly toned 1960 Roosevelt Dime. The Coin is housed in a old ANACS holder Pic 1 is the Label. No specific DDO is named. I see a great similarity to pics on VV. I have also compared the subject coin to High Def pics on PCGS of known examples. The Designers initials are fairly unique. The shape of the 'G' in 'GOD' is also fairly unique. The outer lettering of 'LIBERTY' matches up with VV. 'IGWT' matches up closely as does the date. The amazing toning on the coin made it difficult to get some of the similarities. None of the other 17 listed DDO on VV are close. Thoughts or comments?Last edited by rbroederer; 06-25-2021, 10:04 PM.Tags: None

The toning definitely makes identifying this one difficult. This one probably needs to be examined in hand to try and pick out the doubling to a specific variety. I am not convinced this one is DDO-004, but then again, I don't have it in front of me.Bob Piazza

I agree completely. I did see something that makes me think it is not DDO-004, and that was the shape of the O of GOD. The left side of the letter is distorted more on your coin than the listed variety. In addition, the doubling on the initials just doesn't seem right with the doubled image even with the top and bottom of the letter J on the variety, and a little short on yours. Either way, these are the types of things I look at while trying to attribute any variety. In your case, an in hand examination is definitely in order.Bob Piazza

Hello Jason, I do not find DDO-014 similar to the subject coin. The designers initials and '60' of the date are completely different. The unusual shape of the designer initials and the shape of the 'G' are easiest pickup points as I see this one. Nothing else like it in any of the other DDO's that I can see. The Comparison pics are as follows: the top pic is FS-10-1960-103, DDO-004 from VV, the middle pic is the subject coin and the other three are known examples from PCGS.com, Thoughts of comments?Last edited by rbroederer; 07-22-2021, 10:01 PM.
