CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    Is this Doubled Die?

    Hi ALL !!!

    Just new to this hobby. Want to ensure identifying varieties and error
    accurately. Is my attached 2004-P Westward Journey Peace Medal
    niclkel elements die doubling?

    Hi Novicetoerr and welcome to the forum.

    I did move your post from the original spot to where more people would see it. While the 2004 Peace Nickel did have a double die, it was on the obverse and not the reverse. Looking at your coin, I do see a small amount of doubling that I believe maybe machine doubling.

      Good pictures! How did you do them if I might ask? Also please read some of the other experts remarks on other coins. They might call this die deterioration doubling? Thanks, Bill

          The actual 2004 Peace nickel doubled die is well seen on WE, the date and the eye lid. This coin that you show does have die deterioration doubling and is not the DDO-001.

            I used a handheld microscope camera (DinoCapture) that directly attaches to PC (up to 230X mag; low end $250) I bought from PCgear.com. But won't advise handheld, and rate it 5 out 10.
