CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1967 Kennedy Half. DDO

    Hello

The 1967 Kennedy Half Dollar I have shows 2 ears (especially at the top) and split serif's (E in LIBERTY) I looked on Wexler's and couldn't find any listings for 1967 DDO's. I was certain that the double ear and split serif's were indicators of DDO so was just wondering if what I'm seeing is maybe not what I think it is or if it is and just because a coin has these attributes that it does not always indicate a DDO?

    THANK YOU!

I can not see the details close enough to determine if you have a DDO. Check Variety Vista website: http://www.varietyvista.com/12%20Ken...DOs%201967.htm

I don't see any doubling on the obverse or reverse except some MDD (Machine Damage Doubling), note I and B in LIBERTY or IN G of IN GOD.

Let me offer a few things.

John Wexler's https://doubled die doesn't always list every coin he has attributed. I think John Likes to use "the best of" series alot. Nothing wrong with that.

Variety Vista https://varietyvista.com offers a few 1967's that are doubled dies, but I don't know if they match your coin.

Typically, if IN GOD WE TRUST is doubled on a Kennedy half dollar, it can be quite dramatic. It also can be seen when the coin is very "mushy" looking or is in a really late die state. You should see more than one letter within IN GOD WE TRUST doubled. The pattern, or area for each of those letters are typically in the same "quadrant". What I mean is, if there is doubling at the Northern side of one letter, it is more than likely going to show up on other letters in pretty much the same area.

Let me offer a few photos. These will be random letters and random years of doubling (all doubled dies). One of the NEAT things I look for is the crazy looking top and bottom of the "I" and the top of "WE", a well as the top of the "U".

As the dies become worn over time, this doubling will eventually start to fade, but some will still be apparent.
