2017 Frederick Douglass quarter possibly ddr?
02E09798-D9E5-4733-A9CE-B64144DEA605.jpegI found this a few days ago while looking through my America the beautiful quarters. I think it’s a doubled die but then again it being incuse and not relief that makes me uncertain as to what type of error it is. So I’m going to post it and hope for the best. The photo is a 2017 P Frederick Douglass District of ColumbiaTags: None

I TOO In the past had questions about other quarters that were incused as well, I was told that it wasn't a doubled die, it was simply the die or coin moving as it was created. Some of the examples I had almost every incused letter or number had an issue. I still have them in a tube somewhere in storage.
Maybe a seasoned quarters collector will chime in about this.
My research seemed to show that same sort of movement / sheering.Last edited by MintErrors; 02-15-2022, 09:30 PM.Gary Kozera

With it being incused, the lettering would get smaller with a doubled die. This is MD. Act like the letters are the field and the higher field is the lettering, like a Lincoln cent. The field around the incused lettering(raised area on a Lincoln) is what would double, not the incused part(field on a Lincoln). Easy to understand if you think of it that way.
Incused lettering cant be doubled, thats like having the field of a Lincoln cent being doubled.
Your coin is MD

Thank you Gary and kloccwork419 I appreciate the input. I enjoy collecting coins and currencies and I have some coins that I know what they are but then I have others that I’m uncertain about like this one. I also have a 2008 Lincoln cent and a 2000 Maryland state quarter both of which have some unusual errors. I’ll try post them when my coin scope charges so I can get some decent pictures. Thanks again to the both of you.
