CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1947 S Lincoln Cent RPM 003

    1947 S Lincoln Cent RPM 003

    Ok, after a few hours of messing with the lighting, I think I have found a match for this RPM, but I just want to confirm.

    This mintmark under the scope looks like it was hammered in copper foil. It simply looks unnatural.

    What a pain to get the lighting just right to photograph. Some times it's pure luck.

    The photo below shows some points, but the more bizarre issue is the very middle if the "S".
    Under the scope, I can clearly see two distinct middle parts of the "S", one being directly under the other.

    This last shot required three lights with diffused lighting just to create enough shadows to show some inconsistencies
    on each of the "S's" that are on this coin. It looks even wilder under the scope.

    I am not going to add a full obverse and reverse tonight. It's late and I am headed to Snorezville !

    Does the die marker on the shoulder fold match too?

      The die gouges on the shoulder is the main marker on every stage. Should be easily spotted. Not sure why that wasnt added. Could have saved you them hours. Other than that it looks correct.

        The "hours" isn't about the attribution - that was pretty easy. Its about photographing the coin and getting the lighting correct in order to see that funky mintmark and all its glory - in order to get a level headed logical conclusion. Additionally I have eight of these and all eight have the "markers" that are on the first photo and on the variety vista examples as well. Plus - it nails down the stage a lot faster.

        Problem is....they aren't gouges. Sure its a marker and I get it. If A researcher uses a specific phrase for a marker and it may be a wrong designation, then I don't use it to confuse people.

        Now have a look at what these gouges look like at the shoulder fold....

        Looks like Scratches to me....
