  • 1913 P Buffalo nickel

There is an unusual mark/line between the F and I of "FIVE" on this coin. It's not mentioned in the "complete guide to Buffalo nickels" but I'm wondering if this is a known defect. It seems a bit too rectangular to be a die chip. Thanks for looking!

Could be a die crack with circulation wear. Theres another one across VE. Its nothing significant

Looks like a die gouge to me.

I think it could be the mint attempting to clean out the gunk in the die cavities, and maybe a retooling/ engraving attempt to make the die last a bit longer.

Or simply a die chip/debris that collected in a letter that escaped and moved east a bit.
Whatever it is, it appears to be super minor.
