CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1935 DDO-001? Lincoln Cent

I found a Doubled 9 in the date of a 1935 Lincoln cent. It looks like the 9 in photo of the DDO-001, but nothing else is doubled. How does that happen?

It's called machine doubling and it isn't a true doubled die.

The difference is that doubled dies, the impressions are typically at the same height. Doubled dies are typically wider or thicker, can show split serifs and cookie cutter style lines, since one impression is on top of another, slightly offset.

The doubled dies are pressed into metal so the area the researchers shows is probably the only area that a doubled die is evident. In other words, a ddo or ddr should look nearly exact as the researcher shows.

Strike doubling, mechanical doubling, machine doubling all those worthless doubling have part of one original letter damaged, shelf like with one area lower than the other.

In my signature is a post talking about machine doubling and doubled dies.
