Good Evening, Clear pictures of the Dime will help, coins when are in circulation they sustain damaged that can altered the weight of the coin, but again with clear pictures of the coin both side will helps to reach a accurate diagnosis. Mistreated yes, this is possible. If it was acid treated, it might reduce weight too.
Or if enough material was shaved off the coin, it could lower the number as well.
As Ohel1228 says, photos of coin would help. But it this answers the question, it is up to you if you post photos.

In my opinion this coin has been in the ground for a very long time.
