  • 2022 P Ana May Wong Quarter - possible DDO?

Hi All. I found this roll hunting. I see what appears to be doubling above the ear. I am posting the area in 2 different lights. These photos look pretty much like what I am seeing. Any thoughts appreciated.

    Thank you.

Hummm look at this website. Click on top photo.
The little square or rectangle box above the photos should reveal high resolution photos. The area around Wasington's ear is pretty well defined towards the east.

Hi Mint Errors. Thank you for the response, I see what you are saying and when you say well defined, I agree. It slopes / falls off at that point. So I look at that point because it is my understanding that is the most likely place for doubling to be found on the newer quarters. In addition, I looked at other examples and they did not look the same. To show you why I think this looks different, I set up my microscope and took photos of the same area of the following P Quarters, they are shown in the order listed both views. Not sure how conclusive this is however, the original does look like it has an additional strike to me.

The only thing I can opinion on here is this.

There is a lot involved in this, there are different die stages, different dies set up in different machines. A slight imperfection on the die setup can make a difference. Magnification is good but the attributors typically say if it takes over 10x power to see the issue, it should be considered minor.

Remember after the mid 1990s, the U S Mint went to a single squeeze technology, basically eliminating the classic doubled die. The single squeeze technology is harder for me to accept, since the doubling occurs due to the extreme pressure vice multiple hubbings from 1995 and older.

Feel free to post the coin in questions in the CONECA SERVICES forum, under the ATTRIBUTIONS area. I highly suggest having all the info possible in the first post, as it may take some time for the attributor to circle back and reply more than once.

Hi Gary. I appreciate your thoughts on the single squeeze technology. As far as the subtle differences created by the set up process, I do not have enough knowledge to consider this in my observations and so my conclusions may be somewhat rudimentary. I will post the info on the ATTRIBUTIONS and see what happens.
