1982 D sml date error penny.

Goodday, this penny have what appears to be an S below the D, starting from the outer right side of the D, through the D and below. I hope my pic is clear enough. Thanks for your help.

Pareidola caused by what appears to be zinc rot. Seeing how only proofs were minted with the S and those were minted in SF, it's not possible.

It's simply a stain. It's not raised at all. On the variety vista website they show what types of mint marks are used on each year. S Mint marks are typically slightly larger than the D mintmark.
