  • Question about 1919 D LWC

    Greetings,

Looking for thoughts and opinions - thank you in advance. Came across this 1919-D while going through a bag of wheats. Could this possibly be a RPM so far east? Or is this a simple case of pareidolia? I did run this past a very knowledgeable Lincoln Cent expert before posting here who thought it was worth posting although he confessed its very unlikely this hadn't been found before. Again would welcome thoughts.

    Thank you!

    Matt

The variety vista website, and the others list only one RPM and this is not it. In my opinion, the general shape resembling an additional D is off. These are decent photos but it is a touch blurry.

I agree, it is probably not an RPM. If this was an variety it would have been listed many moons ago. IMHO, It looks like some of the debris, ( dust or whatever it is) is connecting the dots on images on the layer of the holder. So yes, pareidolia is very probable.

The 9 and 1 in the middle of the date, to the East (right) look similar, suggesting mechanical damage of some sort.

It is difficult to zoom in with my tablet to see if it is a stain, die crack, or what ever it is. The coin appears to be in a holder. Camera will focus on the holder and not the coin, if auto-focus is on.if practical it is best practice to take photos of coins when they are raw.

Should you not have another holder or if it is slabbed (encased in plastic) it maybe take a while to get lighting and focus right. It is understandable if the coin is not photographed raw.

Thank you Gary. I will try to take better photos. I am using a newer (to me) scope and agree the pics are not the best. The coin is raw. I will repost the better pics tonight just for fun. Thank you for your thoughts. Thanks for a great forum.
