  • 1980 no mint mark lincoln cent possible ddo/ddr?

I would have written more but the first time I tried posting these images I had it all typed out and then it erased everything and never posted. So for that I apologize. I am new to this so bear with me.

In the 4th image down is the reverse side of the 1980 lincoln cent. The middle of the "E" from the word "One" and the top of the "C" in "Cent" both look like they have split ends to them. Not quite sure what this means. I am hoping someone can teach me a little bit about this. Thanks

in the future, the software does a save draft feature so if you lose something and come back, you may be able to recover, so long as you are typing long enough for it to autosave and i don't know what the time frame is. VERY frustrating to lose posts/emails etc. happened to me and it is enfuriating. another tip is to ctrl a and ctrl c to copy big posts so you can paste if something happens.

your coins just have machine doubling. happens all the time and is probably the most posted about effect on most coin forums. my best tip is if you want to learn about a certain feature on a coin, look a LOT of legit ones. if it is ddos, look at a lot of high end images for ddos, if it is off-center coins, look at a lot of those and/or go to shops/shows etc. may not even hurt to buy a few inexpensive examples to look at in-hand.

i counted them all and there are approx. 5 hundred billion professional images of coins online.

This is probably not the most greatest teaching moment, but it works for many. When you find a coin that you think is a variety.... especially if it is more than a decade old, simply see if that variety exists ar

the attributors try their best to show the variety in the photos, whether a doubled die obvers, reverse or a re-punched mintmark. Since the variety was sunk into the die there is not much wiggle room. It has to be pretty close to the same ...what is in your hand and what the attributor has in photos.

if you don't see a match, odds are as OCC said, pretty high that it could be machine doubling, also known as worthless doubling.

There are a few other sites that may have more examples, but they are more than likely less dramatic.

I do have one question though. On the Reverse of the cent, the E in one and the c in cent. Why are the ends split and not rounded?

for my part, i do see I THINK what you are talking about from your images but they are just too poor quality for me to make any substantive commentary and would be mostly just speculation the good thing though is that, from the images, i can tell you that ddo/ddr dno't have splits like those. that comes from other things.

even some older smart camera phones do pretty well. i use an iphone 6 all the time and for what it is, the images are pretty decent and especially for the cost since it is a multi-use device.
