WIN_20230817_04_27_04_Pro.jpg cool! THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping me confirm the RPM number. it LOOKED kinda like it when i bought it, so i even told the seller, he may want to check his stock, they said, nah, so i ordered another just to give it a shot and BOOM! Another sealed envelope, ANOTHER RPM! pics of BOTH in mint sets . I was HOPING for a small date penny, but ill take a top 100, no 2 top 100 RPM cents,to go with the mint set only Kennedy half dollars and at $19 a pop, i think i came out ok,i would h ave liked a small date cent, but im pretty happy about it after seeing the mint mark, and getting a second opinion about the RPM, just to help make sure i didnt mis attribute or label them wrong. You kinda made my night! i dont know what they would go for if i sold them(i DONT like selling my coins, lol)m trying to set my affairs in order so my family doesnt get taken , not knowing what i have and im trying to make it easy for them to get the best prices out of my coin collection. if they know what it is they can list properly and try to get maximum payout, in a time of need. i was already disabled, when a cancer diagnosis, took my legs out from under me. its a tricky disease and im just glad i get to wake up every day that i do and im able to spend another day with my family ThankYou again so much. i DO APPRECIATE your time and expertise invested in answering a legit and a conversation starter question. In my opinion, I think the values are way too low for any coin on this site. But, it's something to use as a guide. I think it probably worth two Jeffersons if it's in a gem bu condition. It's an RPM that's not readily found, and it's 53+ years old.

How to easily tell the 1970 large and small dates apart:

Heck, if that guy has 1964 mint or proof sets. It may have a doubled die Kennedy or potential other 1964 varieties. =X .Last edited by MintErrors; 08-19-2023, 01:11 AM.Gary Kozera

Hello. thanks for the links, and , come to think on it, i did get a 63 and 64 mint set from the same person when i started collecting , or should say, re-collecting after burglary years back. So, youre saying i should look at the coins in the 64 set for double dies, on which coins, the 50 cent pieces? I have every set from 63-97, and i have 2 1970 S top 100 rpm cents, and i think i have found a 73D DDO-004 OR 003, AND POSSIBLY AN UNLISTED 73 50 CENT AS WELL. . IVE got another area that piqued my interest, could you have 2 working master dies, doubled the EXACT SAME, and 1 stays in phillly, and the other goes say, to Denver or San Fran and receive a mint mark, AND a different DDO NUMBER, or would it just be same DDO number JUST different mint, say 73 dd0-001 and 73d ddo-001, or would they go in order of discovery? i think the mint used the SAME DD masters on AT LEAST 3, MAYBE the first 4 years of the 70s,and the only reason i think that,is because my 73 mint set has BOTH half dollars basically the SAME, minus the mint mark. same doubling on ALL igwt letters and the number 7 is weird, and ill start another tag on it, with examples of 4 different MS Kennedys. thanks so much for all the additional links to research, it fascinates me,

There is a working hub, which creates working dies. Working dies had one impression or more to ensure all of the devices of the coin design were properly represented on the working die. It's nearly impossible to make two working dies with the exact same variety style.
However, IF the Master hub has an issue, like they had in 1972, where the master hub was doubled, and approximately 1.5 billion ( 50% of the Lincoln Cents) coins had the master hub doubling on them, rendering the variety worth a mere cent. So, it is possible to have more than one working die to have e the exact same working die pattern.
Not sure if any Kennedy halves has master die issues....

ok, well that helps a lot. I know almost nothing about the half dollars, and the info on the master hub doubling on the 1972 has about answered my question, i just thought it was odd/cool to find out that the possibility of having two of the same die pattern, with different minting locations, to end up in a mint set together, is possible, as i was not sure and thought i was seeing things, and maybe i was but i was looking at my 1972 sets again when it caught my attention, i had thought about it being a hub doubling issue and possibilities that hat had happened on my coins makes me make a note on the envelope to double check again, before i sell or break up the set. And i dont like selling my coins, but ive got to thin it out, quite a bit or risk my family losing out, because they know less than nothing about my collection, and whats in it, and its worth.

The time was just before COVID. I had a man walk up to our tables and buy us out of silver rounds. He said he was liquidating all of his coins for cash and then currently was buying silver and gold to put in his safe. He said his kids and grand children were not that interested in coins or collecting them and they did not have a clue what they were worth.
So, he bought a lot of silver and gold. Then he said, when the family opens up the safe, they know what the value of silver and gold is, and should not be taken to the cleaners by some sneaky buyer. That made a lot of sense, but he must of had a lot of expensive coins. When we were done, I had a stack of cash that I could not hold in one hand. In the end he was happy and I made a few bucks per silver round.Gary Kozera

Sounds like he had an eye out for his family's future as well. I have proof sets, and the Whitman albums, but they are just mostly stuff collected as a kid growing up,,missing 2 v nickels and have some nice old indian heads that are easy enough to figure out, but im trying to get the lincolns wrapped up without letting any key or semikey types or varietys get away from me after all my big silver was stolen along with my type sets and errors in a break in some time back. So i decided graded tpg coins have been my focus, along with rounds and bars of silver, and i got most of mine right around $17-18 oz. Being disabled on a fixed income and 3 kids has put a pinch in any kind of EXTRA type of cash, but i spent every cent of covid money the wife let me, and ive done quite well for us, made some key buys, and i think if i wanted to,i could open my own store, lol! No i dont have that much really, 7500+/- wheats, and close to 700 PCGS and NGC graded coins, 1000 war nickels and over 50+ silver eagles/brittannias/maple leafs/ australian kangaroos etc from reputable dealers. Pre Biden i shouldsay, I dont see any more buying and anticipate the heart breaking and unfortunate sale of many items, just to be able to make it through the months ahead, as weve been running up against the wire as it is now,, gas going up drags EVERYTHING up with it, except my income, haha! Thank you again for all your input on some interesting finds ive accumulated , it is much appreciated
