CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    Can anyone tell me why there looks like it's two different types of doubling on the reverse of the same coin? The pictures with more than one letter are different doubling than the single letter pics. Weird!!!

          1966 one cent DDR. The doubling comes from different sides of the letters. The pictures with a single letter are different than the other pictures. Is this normal?

            this is machine doubling. it is when the die bounces on the coin and squishes the coin. this makes a flat shelf like area that people think is a doubled die. This is normal damage. Sorry.

              Got it. I'm wondering why the MD is not from the same side of each letter. I was under the impression that any doubling on a coin was from the same side of the doubled letters.

                first: MD is damage. not true doubling... second: this shows on the same side. it is on the left side of a design element. the left side of the right leg of the R, the left side of the right arm of the A.
