Advice on coin sorting process.
New member here. Inherited coin collection with many loose coins. Need advise. On sorting coins. So far, I've put a 4' piece of masking tape across the kitchen bar and marked mint years at top on tape. Then, I put each years coins in a bag, mark it, and put all ten years of each decade in another bag. Eventually, will move to boxes. Are there better ways? Thank you in advance.

In my opinion, you can use plastic cups as well. Put a piece of maski g take o them and date them. Worse case you reuse them by taping over the previous writing.
It depends on what you would like to do with the coins in the end.
Wizard coin supply (online) sells all sorts of
Coin tubes
Plastic or mylar flips
Cardboard boxes
And more.
The white cardboard mylar flips are good. You can use 4 staples (N,S,E,W) onto the cardboard mylar holder and write the date and mintmark on each. Then find or make some storage boxes. I made some storage boxes out of some cheap white pine boards I purchased at lowes. I use a stiff paper tag that stands taller than the mylar to seperate the years and mintmarks. I cut some grey foam board if the row is not full to prevent a train wreck, having the coins sliding and no longer in order.

The mylar flips are typically sold in bulk of 100 each. This is a better solution that buying plastic coin tubes, espcially if you do not have a full tube of each. Plus each coin type is typically the same size coin. For instance, for cent size, it fits the Indian Head cent as well as Lincoln cents, same for the dime size mylars... they are good for Mercury or Roosevelts.
Depending on the types of coins you have, there might be some varieties in your collection. Feel free to let us know how you are doing with the adventure.
