CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Lost "trails"

No, it is not a Western, just how tricky it is to capture some "trail" dies on camera.

I was recently given this 2005 Lincoln cent to attribute and at first it appeared to have some very weak trails from the EPU

If you look closely, you can see the weak lines from the tops of some of the letters. However, when the photo is taken with very low light, this is what happens.

At best, trails and even wavy steps are a hard subject to capture. The light must be at the right angle and intensity. This even holds true for viewing the die with a loop or a scope.

    I agree with you BJ.

Suddenly the last few days I've dove into the past, the closets to be more precise, giving light to long forgotten hoards....

I am attempting to darken the pic's I've taken which helps to bring out some detail. It's one thing to see it, but then to get it on camera.....no doubt. I hope to uncover a few worthy of discussion.....even if they aren’t much, or get shot down.

    Thanks for the tip.
