  • 1988-D CDDO-002?

Trying to identify this one, which has some significant conditional issues. Based on photos I have examined looks to be: 1988-D 1˘ WDDO-001, CDDO-002, Coppercoins: 1988D-1DO-001, with other strike issues. I know I will learn something about minting from this coin. A curiosity or should I consider having this attributed given the expense?
    Thanks,
    Pete P.

your coin has what appears to be counting machine damage. i doubt it will straight-grade anywhere. so even if you have a ddo or other variety, the expenses will most likely not make it doable financially.

there are some varieities/errors out there that are worth grading even if details but this is unlikely one of them. will take some research but i'm not sure i know enough about this one to verify.

With the shape of the second 8 in '88' I would be more inclined to say WDDO-02 than 01, but I am no expert by any means, I have seen nothing that accounts for the doubling on the mint mark on Wexlers pages or Variety Vista, whether machine, actual or PMD (post mint damage). Nor do I see any of the spread indicative of any of the listed error varieties. The "circle of death" around the rim doesn't help as a lot of the key indicators are in these areas too.
Again, this is only my opinion based on what I can see.
