I don't believe it is a doubled die. I think the doubling is due to die fatigue. You can see spread in opposite directions and the orange peel effect in the field. Check out the Strike Doubling Flyer to learn more. It mentions that doubling due to die fatigue is very common on Jefferson nickels 1955 to date.
