CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1953D and D?

This penny appears to have an extra shadow of the mint mark, below the mint mark. I COULD NOT find on V V or COPPERCOINS, does anybody have any other clues? i will be checking at Wexlers site, next, if this has piqued any interest or if you see an extra mark, chime in, and let me hear from you.

I think I see what you're referring to, drawn below, but it is not quite the right size and shape to be a secondary MM.

Hello. I believe you are right between what i was seeing and the mm with your drawing. What i was seeing was right below your drawing, i wish there were an app out there where you could take a photo and it would crosscheck and match which probable rpm's, ddo, ddr's etc to help narrow down possible variety and/or error coins with overlays of known coins. Maybe there is one out there already, but i havent heard of one, yet, but if there is let me know id like to check it out/ Thank you again for your reply, a new set of eyes is helpful sometimes.

no, there is not anything like that. It's probably due to the photographs would have to be almost exactly the same size and offer a good direct on photo of the mintmark and part of the date. It would take a boatload of time to do, and one would have to hope the software utilized could adapt to the lighting fast changes to web browser software. Phots simply differ too much for it to be an easy task.

Maybe Artificial Intelligence can eventually do it, but there is a personal touch to attributions that can't be beat....logical thought process and gut instinct.

Hmm, I was going to reply that an app like that would be like asking for world peace. But you bring up AI, and given the ability for the AI to scour the internet, pull up all the photos, scale them appropriately, do the overlays, etc it seems a little more feasible than world peace, but perhaps just a little.
