2009 Aruba 10 cent error???

I am not up to speed on this countries minting process, but this might have been caused by:
The planchet may have been overheated and during the strike so etching went wrong, like some of the metal flow seeped onto the field (flat area of the coin).
It could be related to die deterioration too.
It might be some lamination issue, or some debris like grease or other material that was either done at the mint, or was done unintentional when the coin was in circulation.
I've seen all sorts of items spilled on coins. That might be a possibility. Some times it's difficult to assess what's going on, with just photos.
It is often a good practice to add a photo of the full obverse and reverse of the coin so we can see if there are any other hints of what might have happened.Last edited by MintErrors; 02-06-2024, 01:03 AM.Gary Kozera
