CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    1960/50 Peru centavo

Grabbed this one off of ebay. The coin is smaller than a dime and the 60/50 is so minor that it was kind of hard to get good shots of the date. I do need some expert assistance on one thing though. I think I see trippling on UN an on CENTAVO. It shows up really well on the T and V as well as some on the inner surrounding devices. It may just be machine doubling but I am not sure.

Not sure of the doubling. Can you get better images? Nice coin!

Yes! And it looks the same under the crossbar of the T, the upper right serif of the N (in CENTAVO), the bottom of the V as well as the bottom of the flower above the O. It actually looks like it may be quadrupled under the U in "UN" but I am not sure. It is at least tripled.

My main question is whether this could be machine damage or if it is truly a hubbing issue.

Ya, I saw the tripling but can't tell what the cause is.

Would it be worth sending it to one of CONECA attrubutors for analysis? I really just want to know if its actually a tripled die. It would be a first for me.

I'm the CONECA Examiner to send it to for a listing number if you want it and I'd assess the doubling too. I'm not advertising to accept coins at the moment as I'm still playing catch-up around here but I can accept one exam like this (or a small number at the same time (nothing over five).

Make sure you use my current address that you can find here:

www.koinpro.com on the homepage. Some pages still show the old address.
