CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

  • Foreign Gold coin with Doubling

    In my recent endeavors I came across this coin I can only find that it was minted by the Royal mint I can't find out how many were minted I can't even find any for sale to compare a sold price and this one has clear doubling can anybody give me any information and does the doubling increase its value being as it's gold...

    Typically, gold errors command a premium, but we don't comment on pricing/valuation here on the forum. I would suggest taking it to a coin show and discussing it in person with dealers in that type of material to get a sense of fair market value.

      doesn't look like a doubled-die to me from those pics.the letters appear thicker but that can also happen easily from the die bouncing a bit or when the coin is being ejected amongst other things. happy hunting.

        Ocnumis2021, the Doubling only occurred on the "1" in the date. Look closely.

          i give it a 50/50 from the images of being actual doubling. i think it would be pretty rare to have some doubling near the edge with so many other letters/numbers in the direct vicinity with no apparent doubling. towards the center of the coin i would expect this more often but not around the legend.

          i think in a situation like this it would be more likely to be RPD than anything but i'm still not sure it is even that, for my part.
