CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

Matte Proofs?????

    Matte Proofs?????

    I have some coins that may be Matte Proofs! To confirm do I send them to Examinations or Attributions! Thank you!!

    In my opinion, you may want to start a post under the attributions forum. BUT bewarned - These are not errors nor varieties, so they may pass on the request. The way attribution and examinations work. They typically look at all submission on line, and if they would like to see the coin(s) in hand, they will let you know who to contact. I am NOT a CONECA staff member, just some one who likes to help others, time permitting.

    When you do a post in the Attributions area, I highly suggest adding as many decent, high quality photos and text to explain what you are seeing. This may cut down on the wait time and offer them information that will decide whether they will accept the coins for in hand attribution.

    CONECA typically likes ONE coin per post.......


    One other thing that I highly suggest is to research the years of the coins you have and see if those years had matte proofs made. You can go to PCGS.com and look under the price guide. look for the denomination you have. At the top, there are TABS. You will have to choose PROOFS and from there, GRADE of MS-60-70. Then the proper type coin and years will show.

    IF all the years do NOT show, at the bottom of the last year, to the left just before that last year showing is a drop down box. Choose ALL and then, all of the years for that type of coin will show.

    IF there is a PLUS (+) sign next to the DATE, then that year has varieties. You can click on that little plus sign to see all the variety types recognized by PCGS.

      Thank you, Gary!! Great explanation on what I need to know! Through the years I've attained my share of VDB's and 09's! I started collecting Lincoln Wheats since I was twelve years old, and still have most of that collection!
      That was 63 years ago! I got back collecting about 10 years ago! I found my collection had a good amount of good looking VDBs and 09s
      Ive been buying both on Ebay and think ive made some good choices!
      I went to a coin shop hoping they had a matte proof in shop! They didn't, but the owner was pretty sure what I showed him looked very promising! I have Kevin Flynns Matte Proof book and read it cover to cover! Great source of information!
      Sorry for blabbing so long! I don't have anyone I can talk "coins" with!
