Missing the top of the zero in the date
Hello everyone, I was taking a look at my 1880 S Morgan silver dollar, it looks to me like the top of the zero and the date is missing, I don’t believe that’s normal can someone let me know if it is?You do not have permission to view this gallery.

In my opinion, It looks like there is some metal missing, but it does not look like it's anything significant. There is a small chance it may be listed as a VAM at vamworld.com . Again, looks pretty minor to me.Gary Kozera

Just My 2 Cents,
1880 S has a large list of varieties, First two things that need to be able to be verified in order for any forum help to verify or help ID your coin is the date position, and mint mark position, (the “S”) and in your case weather your coin is a large or medium “S”.
With that being said you need to work on clear pictures at least enough to make those determinations in order to even start to search what variety it may be. I hope that helps, try using a magnifying glass, but remember if not viewable with no more than 10x in hand it will not be listable, although it may help identify the die.
By the way the date position of (subject) your coin is a near date, which is also close enough where a listing may have it listed as a normal date position
Hence why clear photos will be needed.Last edited by MIMS.2Cents; 03-21-2024, 03:50 AM.
