1906 proof cent?
Heres an old penny, and im not too sure, but its in pretty good shape and if anybody can tell if its a proof or not? Well, proof strike in 1906, that is, or if im the caretaker of just a very nice cent?I think its nice and the colors are spectacular, in hand. and ive owned for quite a few years now, but was always thinking business strike, until i looked at the edges, and noticed how squared off the lip was, not "lip" but the edge of the coin. Let me know what aany of you think,THANKS in advance, ScottYou do not have permission to view this gallery.

In my opinion, I cannot tell from the photos. I would compare the denticles to a business strike and see if they look the same.
If I have my thoughts right, a proof denticle is more square looking, where as a business strike is more rounded.
You can also look at:
The tops of letters and numerals should be flat on proof coins and rounded on business strikes. You may be able to find a good example of a proof Indian on PCGS to refer to......

PCGS images are not loading. But NGC images are:
First is a Business Strike, the other a proof:

In my opinion, this is a business strike. The edges of the date are rounded instead of having that flat look like a proof.Gary Kozera

Thanks Gary, I will check those pictures out and have a better answer for myself, I was not aware the numbers were different on the indian cent proofs, and the business strike coins, and i will check denticles a little more closely on the pcgs site, i have a couple sets on there. Thanks again for all your helpful insight on my posts, , its nice not to just get ripped apart, just because i have a question on a coin, that could be valid issue, or not, i still have questions , after over 40 years in the hobby, and my eyesight hasnt gotten any better since i did fiber optic cable connectors years ago. Yours, Scott
